Savonlinna tourism

Savonlinna is one of few cities in Finland known as a tourist destination. The city is annually visited by some 350 00 tourists (bednights in registered accommodation) and 1 mill. day visitors. Some 240 000 of tourists are domestic, foreign bednights reach almost 80 000. International tourism in Savonlinna is growing rapidly. In 2016 growth of foreign bednights (excluding Russia) was 22,9 per cent and from Russia 6 per cent.

Savonlinna attractions are pristine lake areas, national parks Linnansaari and Kolovesi, national landcape of Punkaharju and forest museum Lusto together with Saimaa provincial museum. Medieval castle Olavinlinna is the nothernmost surviving castle in the world. 

During summertime large number of cultural event but first and foremost Savonlinna Opera Festival attract some 150 000 visitors to the city. Tourism resorts and companies offer a wide range of activities, wellbeing and relaxation in Saimaa lake nature. 

Savonlinna has an ambitious tourism strategy in the heart of Saimaa with the goal for becoming popular international destination for Chinese, Russian and central European tourists. For this goal Savonlinna is cooperating with Saimaa region cities in international marketing and promoting contacts to tour operators and developers all over the world.

Lake Tourism Resort

Savonlinna offers several sites for developing international Lake Tourism Resort in the heart of Saimaa Lakeland. Lake tourism resort can offer year round activities in clean and refreshing nature for tourists arriving from different parts of the world.

Available activities consist of biking, hiking, lake and ice swimming, sauna, fishing, canoeing, rowing, boating, ice skating, skiing, sightseeing snowshoeing, picking berries and mushroom, relaxation in nature and many other things that can be recommended for visitors or offered as productized service.

Savonlinna is interested to assist the operator and developer of the resort to develop the service concept, international distribution network and give support for marketing.
